MONT ST-MICHEL & FRENCH REVOLUTION

Where: Northern France
When: January 2009
How: Barcelona - London - Paris - Mont St-Michel
Rating: 10/10

Lepas spend few days di Barcelona, kami terus fly & stay di London pula. Tiada yang menarik sangat tentang London. Best shopping je kot. Next time lah saya update pasal London OK? Di London, kami naik Eurostar ke Paris. Spend dlm 3 hari kat Paris. Paris best tapi sejuk gila!  Paris adalah last destination kami travel sama-sama. So tinggal la saya keseorangan di Paris.

Teringat kisah Sleeping Beauty, Cindarella & Rapunzel hehe :)

According to Celtic mythology, Mont St-Michel was one of the sea tombs to which the souls of the dead were sent. Following his vision of St Michael, Bishop Aubert of Avranches built a devotional chapel at the summit of the island in 708. In 966, Richard I, duke of Normandy, gave Mont St-Michel to the Benedictines, who turned it into a centre of learning and, in the 11th century, into something of an ecclesiastical fortress, with a military garrison at the disposal of the abbot and the king.
In the 15th century, during the Hundred Years’ War, the English blockaded and besieged Mont St-Michel three times. The fortified abbey withstood these assaults; it was the only place in western and northern France not to fall into English hands. After the Revolution, Mont St-Michel was turned into a prison. In 1966 the abbey was symbolically returned to the Benedictines as part of the celebrations marking its millennium. Mont St-Michel and the bay became a Unesco World Heritage site in 1979.

masa ni time air tengah surut

Masa saya pergi ni, time air surut. Kalau pergi time air tengah pasang, nampak Mont St-Michel ni seolah-olah terapung-apung di tengah laut. Hasil seni binanya masih kukuh sampai sekarang. Dan masih lagi cantik! Mengikut sejarah, Mont St-Michel ni dibina asalnya atas tujuan keagamaan dan tempat pemujaan. Tapi, ketika Perang 100 tahun Mont St-Michel digunakan sebagai benteng pertahanan dari kena serang dek orang puteh @ British. Lepas French Revolution, Mont St-Michel ni digunakan sebagai penjara. Semua orang jahat & anti kerajaan akan dikurung kat sini. Best kan belajar sejarah dulu-dulu. Teringat subjek Sejarah Form 4, bab French Revolution.

Ready to depart back to Paris. Mission accomplished!
